How Mediums Describe Spirits: Meanings and Reading Expectations

Types of Spirits that Loved Ones May Become

At a glance

Mediums use different spiritual descriptions of people who have died. There is no universal classification, and a description offered during a reading does not verify the condition or location of a loved one.

Ask what a term means in that session

Words such as “transitioning,” “guide,” “angelic” or “returning” may have different meanings to different practitioners. Ask the reader to explain their own usage. You do not have to accept it or change your beliefs.

Decide your expectations before booking

  • Is a specific contact promised, or is the reader clear that it may not happen?
  • What happens if the session is not what you expected?
  • Are the duration, price and any refund conditions clear?
  • Can you stop if a topic is upsetting?

Grief is not an obligation to keep paying

A lack of a message is not evidence that you failed, that your loved one is angry or that a spirit needs an expensive rescue. Do not pay an urgent fee to resolve a frightening claim. Your bond with someone does not depend on a reading.

Keep grief support outside the session too. Friends, community and qualified bereavement support may offer different kinds of help; a medium is not a substitute for healthcare.

  1. While the descriptions of spirits are fascinating, it’s essential to consider cultural beliefs surrounding death and the afterlife. Different cultures interpret these experiences uniquely, which adds depth to our understanding of spirituality.

  2. ‘Angelics preventing tragedy’? Why haven’t they stopped any natural disasters then? Maybe they’re just on vacation while we deal with our problems down here! Hope they packed sunscreen!

  3. ‘Death is not permanent’? That’s quite an optimistic view considering how final it feels for many. It’s comforting but also raises questions about what truly happens when we pass on.

    • ‘Optimistic’? More like wishful thinking! If death isn’t permanent, why does everyone act so scared of it? Maybe we should embrace it instead of fearing what we can’t control.

  4. ‘Returning Ones’? Sounds like a bad sequel to a movie nobody wanted! If they come back for more life, I just hope they remember where they parked their souls last time!

  5. I found this article incredibly insightful! It opened my eyes to the different types of spirits and their roles. I always believed in the afterlife, but now I have a better understanding. Thank you for sharing this!

  6. Honestly, this whole concept seems far-fetched. The idea of spirits taking different forms sounds like something out of a cheesy horror movie. It’s hard to take any of this seriously without solid evidence.

  7. I disagree with the portrayal of ‘Angelics’ as solely benevolent beings. Not all spirits are inherently good or helpful; many can have their own agendas that don’t align with human interests, which is often overlooked.

  8. ‘Newly Transitioned’ spirits just hanging around? Great! Can’t wait for them to start ghosting me in my living room too. What a fun party that would be—dead relatives mingling with living ones!
